July 16 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes

July 16, 2013
I.     Call to order
LeAnn  called to order the regular meeting of the Nishnabotna Valley Quilters Guild at 7 pm on July 17, 2013 in the Library - Walnut, IA.
II.     Roll call
LeAnn conducted a roll call. There were 11 members present and 5 presented quilts for show and tell.
III.     Approval of minutes from last meeting
Ione, Sec. Pro-Tem, read the minutes from the last meeting. The minutes were approved as read. The treasure was absent so report was given.
IV.     Open issues
a)     Personal Challenge- Items reviewed and most are “on track”.
b)     Community Quilt – Nancy showed a completed strip star quilt.  Members brought 4.5 x 6.5 flower fabric blocks.  Each member took home multiples of 6 to be sewn together this month. Roxi read a thank you from the Avoca Fire and Rescue for the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt that the Guild donated to them.
c)     Challenge Blocks.  Last months were shown – oohed and ahhed over! Ioen presented her block for July.  We are now ½ way done with the quilt!
d)     Betty and Elaine told the group about the Omaha Quilt Show that they had attended.
e)     New business
a) Omaha Shop Hop – Schedule and plans for lunch reviewed.  Our group of 9 will visit 7 shops this Saturday. Rides were coordinated for all.
b) Thinking ahead to the August meeting – will take volunteers for the Nomination Committee and Program Committee for 2014.
c) Secretary Challenge was presented by LuAnn for each member to make a fabric post card for next meeting.  Kits were handed out.
VI.     Program:
1)     Fabric swap of ½ yard pieces of cotton was enjoyed by all.
2)     LuAnn presented – piped binding
VII.     Reminders:
Next meeting will be August 20, at 7 pm. Elaine teaches the next block and Robin will teach “Perfect Circles”.

June 18, 2013 Meeting Minutes

The Nishna Valley Quilt Guild held their regular meeting on June 18th at the
Walnut Public Library.
President LeAnn called the meeting to order and due to the absence
of the secretary, no minutes of the previous meeting were read.
Treasurers report was given, the balance being $868.09.  Challenge blocks
were then displayed.
 
The officers had the opportunity to purchase several yards of  backing fabric at a
bargain price. Next month everyone is to being small floral fabrics, 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches for
nursing  home quilts.
 
Also next month a fabric swap will be  held – bring fabric, at least 1/2 yard, to be traded with other
members.    The Omaha shop hop will be on July 20th.
 
LeAnn had the challenge block for this month.
 
Betty gave a very informative demonstration on a new and simpler way to make
cathedral window blocks.
