Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2013
I. Call
to order
LeAnn called
to order the regular meeting of the Nishnabotna
Valley Quilters Guild at 7 pm on
April 16, 2013 in the Walnut Public Library. Information
was shared about the Relay for Life project sponsored by the Stitchin' Tree Quilt
Store of Harlan, IA that will be held May 7, 2013. Pictures of a grandchild’s first doll quilt, new
techniques learned, an applique quilt as a personal challenge, king sized
double wedding ring quilt, a quilt for Amelia that raised $600 and technique for
“scrappy ticker tape piano key border" were shared. Our members have been very busy.
II. Roll
call
LeAnn conducted a roll call – show and tell. Six of the 11 members present and one guest
participated.
III. Approval
of minutes from last meeting
LuAnn read the
minutes from the last 2 meetings. The minutes were approved as read. Vivian
gave the Treasures report of $916.09.
IV. Open
issues
a)
Sunbonnet Sue now has binding thanks to Nancy and
Robin. She now awaits a label – LuAnn volunteered to make this.
b)
Personal challenge project was explained and sign up
completed. Our members have listed 24
new techniques that they individually will try to conquer this year.
c)
Community Outreach Committee will be meeting again
tonight after the meeting. There will be a benefit auction on May 11 for Gene
Eblin. Dorine has made and donated a
quilt for this event.
d)
Web Site Committee has met and has decided that we
would continue to put our meeting minutes on the blog. LeAnn will be blogging
also. They plan to add a blank page for pictures – if anyone does not want
their picture on the blog, then need to contact the committee.
V. New
business
a)
The Monthly Challenge continues. We are now ¼ of the year and quilt
completed. If additional focus fabrics
are needed, they were located at the Quilt Studio in Omaha, and on line. All
members had presented their version of this months completed block.
b)
Shop Hop Trip to Omaha Quilt Shops was discussed for tentatively
July 20. Will focus on the Cut Up and
Quilt shop in Council Bluffs, Quilt Studio, Bella Fiorra, The Quilting Place.
Sunshine Stitches and others. LuAnn will
be contacting these shops to coordinate. Roughly 9 member indicated interest in
this trip.
c)
Challenge block for this month was taught by Nancy. It was “Crown and Star”.
d)
To nights program was taught by Nancy. She demonstrated
and taught “back basting applique”. So
many members were excited by this unique process that discussion was held on a
regular workshop on this technique.
e)
Next meeting will be May 21. Program is to be “Take a Walk through the
Garden”. Members are to bring spring
quilts that they have sewn or have in their family stash.
f)
There was a potpourri of information shared towards the
end of the meeting: Members were encouraged to visit the “fox glove” website

recently visited the “Taste of Home” show and shared some samples
A
Quilting Circle Magazine was presented to be passed around the group.
Charmayne
has opened a new shop in Avoca IA, - Something For Everyone. Guild members were offered a discount. She will be getting more fabric into the
store.
Missouri Valley Quilt Guild has invited us to their
next month’s meeting for a special speaker.
Their meeting nights are the same as ours.
VI. Adjournment
LeAnn adjourned the meeting at 8:15.
